Japan's flagship workation program returns in 2026 with two parts: a 10 day main program and a pop-up coliving stretch wrapped around it. From September 24 to October 17, participants live and work together in Fukuoka, combining the summit program with a deeper dive into local life, food, and culture. The 2025 edition drew 496+ participants from 57 nationalities.

HSNF returns from October 11 to November 1, 2026, again built around its theme of Yohaku, the blank space that lets you experience a place as a temporary resident rather than a conference delegate. New for 2026: the second phase moves to Matsuyama and the Setouchi islands. The urban phase runs in Hiroshima City from October 11 to 25, the slower nature phase in Matsuyama and Setouchi from October 25 to November 1, and you can join either phase with a single pass or both with the All Access Pass.

The two week Blue Zone retreat returns from November 9 to 23, 2026 in northern Okinawa, home of the UNESCO listed Yanbaru forest. 🇯🇵 More programs across Japan
Beyond the big autumn events, smaller pop-up colivings run throughout the year in Japan's quieter corners. Alt_Coliving hosts month-long pop-ups in Kotohira on Shikoku, a temple town famous for its shrine and udon, built around community, remote work, and co-created programs with locals. Check their site for the next edition's dates.
🇯🇵 Recurring events waiting on 2026/27 dates
- Co-Lab Hakuba Summit: the 10 day alpine retreat in Hakuba Village returns each autumn, typically late October to early November, blending coworking with mountain adventures, wellness, and travel industry networking. 2026 dates to be announced.
- TADAIMA Shimoda: seasonal coliving and co-creation programs on the Izu Peninsula, with the 2025 edition running the full month of November. 2026 dates to be announced.
- Shibuya Digital Nomad Program: Shibuya City's month-long coworking and community program in Tokyo ran editions in 2025 and announces new rounds periodically. Applications open exclusively to people living outside Japan.
- Goto Islands retreat: the six day island retreat in the landscapes that inspired Studio Ghibli has not yet announced a 2026 edition.
Japan's nomad event scene has grown from a single Fukuoka experiment into a full autumn circuit: you could land in Fukuoka in late September, follow the season through Hiroshima and Setouchi, and finish the year on an Okinawa beach in November, all inside one 6 month digital nomad visa. Pick one event and go deep, or chain them together and let the season carry you across the country. Either way, book early. The coliving rooms are few, the communities are small by design, and that is exactly what makes them worth showing up for.
