This guide compares 9 warm winter bases on what matters for a two-or-three-month stay: real winter weather (not brochure weather), coworking, costs, and whether anyone else is there to have dinner with. All operator prices were checked on their own websites as of September 2026, and where data is thin we say so. One honest note up front: Bali is missing on purpose. 🇹🇭 Chiang Mai: the classic, at its seasonal best

There is a reason half the nomad world funnels through Chiang Mai between December and February: it is simply the city's perfect window. Dry, sunny, pleasantly cool at night, and crucially before the February-to-April burning season makes the air unhealthy. The infrastructure needs no introduction: Yellow Coworking in Nimman charges €156 per month with on-site showers, one-beds start around €250 outside the center, and a single person spends about €477 before rent (Numbeo, September 2026). Every interest has a meetup, every street has a café.

Getting there: fly into Chiang Mai via Bangkok. The window: arrive November, leave by early February before the smoke.

🇹🇭 Koh Lanta: the island coworking legend

If Chiang Mai is too urban, its island counterpart is Koh Lanta, home of KoHub, one of the most loved coworking spaces in Asia. A month costs about €169 (three months €391) with 1 Gbps fiber, backup generators, and a kitchen that delivers lunch directly to your desk. Their all-inclusive package with private bungalow, membership, and two meals a day starts around €587 per month. The island runs on a season: KoHub operates November through April, which is exactly your window anyway. January and February are the driest, sunniest months with the sea at 29°C.

Accommodation ranges wildly, from about €156 for a basic fan room to €1,000+ for a pool villa (KoHub's own numbers), with a realistic mid-range studio around €340.

Getting there: Krabi airport, then the shared minivan with car ferry, about €10 and 2 hours. The window: January to March, book December stays early.

🇱🇰 Weligama: learner surf all winter

Sri Lanka's south coast flips on in December: dry, 30°C, and the softest learner waves anywhere, with board rental and €13 lessons on a 3-kilometer sandy bay. Weligama and the neighboring coves (Hiriketiya for the horseshoe-bay postcard) run on a surf-camp and coliving model rather than formal coworking, so budget for a camp or guesthouse with decent wifi rather than a hot desk. Getting there: Colombo, then 2.5 to 3 hours south by highway bus or transfer. The window: December to March, the west-southwest coast's dry season.

🇲🇦 Taghazout: winter is the whole point

Taghazout's famous right-hand point breaks only really wake up in winter, which is why Morocco's surf-coliving scene peaks exactly when Europe is coldest. Days run 20 to 22°C, the water needs a wetsuit, and the village lives on a coliving-and-surf-camp economy with a short flight from most of Europe and no jet lag (Morocco runs close to European time, a real advantage for keeping EU client hours). Getting there: Agadir airport, 40 minutes. The window: October to March, the surf season.

🇪🇸 Las Palmas: Europe's winter living room

The no-visa, no-jet-lag, no-long-haul option. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria sits at 21°C in January, has a genuine city (not a resort), a beach with a surf school at its downtown end (La Cicer), and one of Europe's biggest winter nomad communities. EU citizens just show up, and for everyone else it is Schengen. Living costs sit well below mainland-Spain beach cities, with one-beds realistically around €800.

Getting there: Gran Canaria airport, direct flights from all over Europe. The window: November to March, when the "eternal spring" label earns itself.

🇿🇦 Cape Town: the southern summer

December to February is Cape Town's high summer: long evenings, beach sunsets, and the full outdoor-training paradise we covered in the fitness hubs guide, from the free Sea Point promenade gym to Saturday parkruns. Coworking at Workshop17 starts around €116 per month, one-beds run €630 to €900 (Numbeo, September 2026, solid sample). Two honest caveats: it is peak season, so book early and pay peak prices, and the Cape Doctor southeaster can howl for days.

Getting there: Cape Town International, direct from major European hubs, and the near-zero time difference is a gift for European clients. The window: December to February for summer, or shoulder months for calmer prices.

🇨🇴 Medellín: eternal spring, driest months

Medellín does not do winter at all: 22°C every day of the year at 1,495 meters. December to March are the driest months, which makes them the best ones, and the city's Sunday Ciclovía closes 49 km of streets for runners and cyclists. Gym life costs €41 a month at Smart Fit's no-commitment plan, day passes at NOI Coworking run about €17, and one-beds range €570 to €920 (Numbeo, September 2026, rents likely skew low). December bonus: the city's famous Alumbrados Christmas lights along the river.

Getting there: José María Córdova airport, direct from Madrid and US hubs. The window: December to March.

🇲🇽 Playa del Carmen: Caribbean dry season

Hurricane season ends in November and what follows is the Riviera Maya at its best: 27 to 28°C, dry, sea at 26°C, cenotes and reefs within day-trip range. The coworking scene is real and cheap for what it is: Nest (partly solar-powered, steps from the beach) at about €177 per month and BUNKER at €167, both 24/7. Rents span a wide range: €345 outside the center to €932 in it (Numbeo, September 2026), and December books out at holiday prices. Skip the March spring-break wave if crowds bother you.

Getting there: Cancún airport, then the ADO bus straight to downtown, about €14 and 90 minutes. The window: January and February are the sweet spot.

🇪🇬 Dahab: the budget wildcard

Never heard of Dahab? That is part of its charm. A small former Bedouin fishing town on the Sinai's Red Sea coast, world-famous among divers and freedivers (the Blue Hole, a 100-meter-deep sinkhole steps from shore, is 10 km up the coast) and quietly hosting the cheapest warm-winter nomad life anywhere: one-beds run €117 to €173 per month (Numbeo, June 2026, very small sample) and a meal costs about €3.50.

Now the honest part. Dahab is café-working, not coworking: the town's flagship coworking space has closed, average speeds hover around 23 Mbps, and a 4G SIM as backup is mandatory, so this is a base for flexible schedules rather than daily video-call marathons. Winter days are a sunny 22 to 24°C but desert nights get properly cold, pack a jacket. On paperwork: the free 15-day Sinai stamp does not cover a longer stay, so get the regular $30 visa on arrival or an e-visa. And check your government's travel advice: the warnings concern other parts of the Sinai, with Dahab and the coastal resorts explicitly exempted, but overland trips outside the coastal towns are advised against, so fly in via Sharm El Sheikh (90 minutes by transfer, about €20) rather than driving from Cairo.

The window: November and March are warmest, December to February is sunny but bring layers for the evenings.

The yellow cells around December are almost all the same story: perfect weather, holiday crowds, peak prices. Book December stays early or arrive in January. Chiang Mai is the one hard deadline on this list: leave before the February smoke.
